In other words, it is time to sow some seed. We have brought our seeds out of the fridge and we are impressed with the amount we have gotten. After getting back from our lovely vacation, we spent some time expanding our operation by added shelves to our greenhouse. It is now at capacity. We now have 20 shelves to place our seed trays on, giving us the capacity for 48 seed trays. We spent all of Saturday filling our seed trays with soil. Today, we began to plant our seeds in those trays and were abundantly surprised that we did not have enough seed trays to accommodate all the seeds we harvested last fall. We will have to again expand our operation and place some seed trays on the ground again this year. THIS IS A WONDERFUL PROBLEM TO HAVE!!!
We are hoping that we will have enough seeds to reach over 4,000 seeds planted this year. If that is the case, and with the usual success rates of 8-11%, we could see anywhere from 241 to 443 new roses this year. Obviously, we will have to cull those down to only 25 plants again this year, but we will get the opportunity to be a lot pickier on the plants that make it to each successive stage of growth. As of end of day today, we have 3,456 seeds planted. We will keep you updated as new developments occur.
